Candy Apples

Happy weekend!

So happy October is finally here!!   Let the fall fun begin!

I wanted to share a Candy Apple recipe since apple harvest season is upon us.  I made up these little treat bags with one of Berenice's adorable Karber images.  Isn't Jenny adorable in her hooded Dracula cape?  (actually, all the Karber images are adorable!)

Stamps: Karber digi (Vampire Costume Jenny)
Paper: SU! cs
Ink: Copic markers
Other: scallop nesties, CB emb folder.

Found this recipe online last year!  yummO!

Old-Fashioned Red Candy Apples
8 medium sized apples
8 wooden sticks
3 cups white sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
1/4 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)

Wash and dry the apples. Remove any stems or leaves and insert a wooden stick into the end of each apple. Set apples aside.

Heat and stir sugar, corn syrup and water in a saucepan until sugar has dissolved. Boil until the syrup reaches 300 degrees on a candy thermometer, or until a little syrup dropped into cold water separates into breakable threads.

Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon and food coloring, if using.

Dip one apple completely in the syrup and swirl it around a little with the stick to coat. Hold the apple above the saucepan to drain off excess. Place apple, with the stick facing up, on a well greased pan.

Repeat with remaining apples. If syrup thickens or cools too much, simply reheat briefly before proceeding. Let cool completely before serving.

Variations: After coating each apple, quickly dip the end or press and swirl apples in shredded coconut, colored M&M's, chopped nuts, granola or colored sprinkles.

What type of fun fall treats to you like to make to share with family & friends?

Enjoy your day!
Blessings!

Hi Maria!

TFS this! The apples look so yummy and I love the way you decorated them! Yes, the vampire is adorable! As I type I am still basking in the enjoyment of the apple pie my husband made ealier today..it was so yummy! I would share the recipe but he won't share it with me! We are so competitive and this is something he can make better than me! Oh the shame I feel admitting that! lol

Good luck in the challenges!

Yum, thanks for sharing. Never really thought about it, but there isn't any flavor is there? Just sugar! lol Our neighbor always used to make popcorn balls for my brother and me for Halloween. She was a wonderful farmer lady who always had the best holiday treats!

Well, it might not be a "normal" treat, but we really like to make cider with mulling spices... It's a sure sign that fall is here when all have some HOT cider!! :)
